Mr. Lippman received his BA in English Literature from Princeton University and his Masters in the Arts of Teaching from Stanford University.
Managing Director of Academic Operations and Vision
Ms. Gerth joined ACE as Director of Schools in 2011. She began her teaching career at Independence High School and then joined the staff of Downtown College Prep charter high school in its second year. After four years of teaching in an interdisciplinary humanities core and serving in a lead teacher capacity, she became the school’s first Academic Dean. She then moved into the Central Office and built the organization’s Human Resources and Operations functions. Her particular areas of interest are human capital management and developing efficient systems and processes.
Ms. Gerth holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Duke University, a Master’s Degree in History from Stanford University, a Teaching Credential from San Jose State University, and a Master’s Degree in Education and an Administrative Credential from the Principal Leadership Institute at the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, she has completed a certificate program in Human Resources Management from UC-Extension as well as CSDC’s Chief Business Officer training program.
Director of Finance
Nath has over 18 years of finance experience working in leading Fortune 100 companies such as GE, Textron and Arthur Andersen and varied non-profits including the KIPP Foundation. His varied finance and organizational experience spans the following areas: Strategic Financial Planning and Budgeting, Forecasting and Financial Performance Updates, Grant Reporting, Organizational & Business Strategy, Transaction Structuring and Execution, Process Improvement and Controllership Enhancement. Nath has worked in both large corporate and smaller entrepreneurial environments (private and non-profit) and has led and managed small and large teams on strategic organizational initiatives.
Nath has received his M.B.A. from the University of Rochester. He also received his Chartered Accountant (CPA-equivalent) license in India and Bachelors in Accounting & Economics from Sydenham College in Mumbai, India.
Managing Director, Business Operations & Strategy
Prior to joining ACE, Mike O’Farrell spent more than 20 years with Applied Materials, Inc. before retiring in January 2007. In his more than six years as Vice President, Global Community Affairs, Mr. O’Farrell’s leadership produced global impact through the company’s internationally recognized philanthropy and community involvement programs. Such efforts included substantial and proactive programs for education reform in San Jose, CA and Austin, TX.
In October 2006 Mr. O’Farrell was the recipient of the Leadership in Action Award by the nonprofit People Acting in Community Together (PACT) for his civic leadership in the Silicon Valley community, especially in the field of education. Before assuming his community role, Mr. O’Farrell was Vice President, Global Controller, Chief Accounting Officer and Assistant Secretary for Applied Materials.
Mr. O’Farrell is a certified public accountant who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from Golden Gate University.
Principal of ACE Franklin-McKinley Middle School
Mr. Torrico joined ACE in 2013. He began his career in education as a 7th grade History teacher at Fischer Middle School in the Alum Rock School District. After four years as a classroom teacher he became the Assistant Principal of Instruction and Curriculum at Burnett Middle School in the San Jose Unified School District, He has spent the previous 8 years as a Principal in the Franklin McKinley School District at Franklin School and Shirakawa School. Mr. Torrico joined ACE because he is committed to closing the achievement gap and providing equal access to a high quality education to all students.
Mr. Torrico hold a Bachelor’s degree in History and a Master’s degree in Chicano Studies from San Jose State University.
Co-Prinicipal of ACE Empower Academy
Mrs. Mia-Ramzan is currently a co-principal at ACE Empower Academy. Last year, she held the position of assistant principal at the site. She has been an educator for fourteen years, working in districts and charter organizations in Los Angeles and San Jose. Mrs. Mia-Ramzan’s range of experience includes teaching second through fourth grades, being an ELD and math coach, holding the position of summer school principal and being a community board advisory council member. She has always worked in diverse communities of color and is especially interested in equitable education choices for students of all backgrounds.
Mrs. Mia-Ramzan graduated with a B.A. in Sociology from Scripps College and received her master’s degree and teaching credential from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, she holds an administrative credential from the Santa Clara County Office of Education.
Co-Prinicipal of ACE Empower Academy
After spending the last 10 years working in Oakland, Vu Long Trinh is now ACE Empower Academy's Co-Principal, for the 2015-2016 school year. Though it was difficult for him to leave Oakland, Mr. Vu Long is excited to return home to San Jose. Mr. Vu Long grew up in San Jose, attended San Jose public schools, and San Jose is where his 2 year-old daughter was born and currently lives. Mr. Vu Long joined ACE because he believes that charter schools are the great equalizer in closing the achievement gap and that all students deserve a high quality education.
Mr. Vu Long received his BA in Ethnic Studies from the University of California, Berkeley in 2003. He received his administrative credential and MA in Educational Leadership from CSU East Bay in 2012. Mr. Vu Long is currently attending CSU Monterey Bay and expects to graduate with a Masters in Business Administration in the spring of 2016.
